Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 213 7/20/08 Ready for liftoff and back to Philly in a few hours!

This has been a whirlwind trip...time goes way too fast when on vacation, doesn't it? I am not a morning person by nature but made a point to get up today for some shots at sunrise. We had a nice walk on the beach and saw some pelicans playing in the water and drying off their wings. They are fascinating pre-historic like birds...This was a fun trip...I will look forward to catching up as best I can when I am home. I know I have missed some great photos from all of you these last few days!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 212 7/19/08 This is the view from where we sit. Looks more like Florida than the Zebra, huh?

We are having a very nice time. Thank you all for your comments on my zebra. I am sorry not to take time for your shots and hope to catch up at least a little when I get home. I am, however, taking a ton of shots, but many, many that will be trashed. I have been trying to get shots of birds and my admiration for those of you who capture birds in flight has gone up a thousandfold! JY= I saw your shot yesterday of the bird in flight and the clear blue sky and was in awe..how do you guys do it??? Very frustrating to me. Anyway, this was the kind of scene that I can handle better. I do hope you all are staying cool. Enjoy your weekend...

*Thanks to Jeremy for teaching me that I was 'tricked' by the cloud line and left the horizon crooked. Fixed it on my own pic for the gallery I will make!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 211 7/18/08 Yes folks...I really am in Florida!!! LOL Straight out of the camera except fot the crop. No, this is not pp selective coloring of a horse, by the way!

Remember Belle, the little dachshund wearing pearls that I took pictures of in Central Park in NYC a few months ago? Well, she lives here in Florida now and I have kept in touch with her 'mom'. We got together last night and 'mom' took us for a ride to see some horses at a horse farm near here, but made sure we saw this zebra that lives near the horses. This is probably the best photo of the trip so far and certainly the most surprising! Not the usual Florida shot, is it???

Andrea...thanks for your tips.. Are the ears perked forward the same for zebras as for horses???
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 210 7/17/08 I love vacations!

We arrived in Tampa early yesterday, as you know. It was cloudy with off and on thunderstorms, but some clearing in the afternoon. We had to get up at 3am on Wed morning for our early flight so yesterday, quite honestly we were pretty wiped out and napped on an off..Getting older really does make your recovery from lack of sleep a lot harder. Maybe it was because we could nap, too...who knows. Anyway, I did take a few shots, but with off and on hard rain I didn't take my camera out too much. This is a little plaque inside our little efficiency room where we stay...Love this place!!! By the way, it was cooler here than in Philly yesterday, probably today, too. Good timing on our part! I will post when I can, but have to make myself break away from my computer habit, too while here....Diet Pepsi and computers...too much for one girl to give up, but that's how it goes sometimes!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 209 7/16/08 Meet Dylan!

Another walk, another doggie portrait. I am writing to you from the Tampa Bay, Fl airport. We got here at 9am this morning, a wee bit too early to pick up our rental car without paying another day rental on Sunday. Ok with me, finally connected to the Internet to upload my potd. This pup with his cousin "Harley" have a little gallery, too, now. I am collecting galleries of dogs when I walk it seems. Maddie had been chatting with Harley, Dylan and all their parents and Maddie's mom was raving about her portrait..soooo I had to take more pics to keep everyone happy. I will try and keep in touch, just depends on whether we get Internet along the way. Stay cool! Hugs, Me
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 208 7/15/08 Steering myself away from my Diet Pepsi habit!!!

Well, this was what we call desperation shot, isn't it? Steve and I went to the park a little earlier tonight and there weren't too many pups to take pictures of...I caught a few flowers, but when I got home I saw my little case of Seltzer in the garage...Desperation shot! I am really getting out of my Diet Pepsi habit and seltzer has been a big help. I guess I like cold bubbles, more than just the cola, caffeine and aspartame!

Thanks to Scott (*aerialphoto*) for helping me 'fix' my Nikon Fg!!! It wasn't broken at all... just needs a new battery and Scott's trick to turn the exposure knob to 'B' helped pop the mirror and it works great!!! Three cheers to Scott!!!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 208 - 7/14/08 Maddie

This was a little test for me...The pp of selective coloring in Picasa is not as precise, but it was a fun thing to try on this sweet dog. She is another regular at the park where we walk. She loved to pose. I made a gallery for her in the Pets section, too!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 207 7/13/08 - Ready to jump on the bus???

No, not to go to prison, to visit the prison. There are no leaves on the trees and the people on the bus have coats on so this was obviously not shot recently...It is my 'file photo' of this tour bus advertising Eastern State Penitentiary's fabulous tour. A group of us are planning to meet there to shoot on Wednesday August 13th at 2 PM with dinner after at a restaurant across the street. If you can join us, the more the merrier. Please contact me via e-mail and let me know you will be coming. There is a parking lot right next door to the museum. Contact me at CleanTth@gmail.com so I can start a head count on how many people will be there!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 207 - 7/12/08 Another try at a 3D-ish pic!

A day at Bradley Beach, New Jersey. I used the Tamron 90mm 2.8 again. I also made a point to use a wide open aperature for a quick shutter to help get the pop I wanted. This is fun to have a particular technique to work on, rather than just shooting for an interesting shot...Though this was both interesting, I thought, and made for a stand-out subject. I hope you think so, too.

Sorry I have not been online much to catch up on all your photos and make comments. You have all been so kind in taking time for my pinwheels flowers and the others lately...I wish I could have responded and thanked each one of you personally, but just can't hang at the computer that much right now. I had a lot more work days this week and with that, needed some time with Steve, today, too! We are leaving Wed for a few days in Florida. I will try and look at some pics later tonight and comment when I can...just a very busy time.
