Mom4squirrels > CRABAPPLE TEARS

It rained AGAIN today..prediction is through the weekend. Ugh!
So I ran out with my..ok, THE trusty 70-200 and photographed the crabapple tree across the street during a break in the downpour..and before the wind blew the apple tears away.
Mom4squirrels > Crabapple Tears Too

This is my favorite of the crabapple photos. It looked too dark until I uploaded it to Smug Mug, so I didn't use it. Vandana commented on photo #1 so I think I have to leave it for now...but I think this one is better.
Mom4squirrels > LITTLE GREEN APPLES

These little green apples were "ripe" for shooting as they dangled peacefully in the afternoon September sun.
Mom4squirrels > A TOUCH OF COLOR AMONG THE THORNS

I spotted this lone New England Aster growning in among the thorns of a bare hawthorne tree in a field. The gentle breeze and dappled sun made it stand out among the brown tones of the branches and dead leaves.

(This is the best I can get the saturation for upload onto Smug Mug. It shows up either too dark or medium light. However, I also like the soft tones, so it was a toss up as to which one was better. I particularly liked the sunlight on the thorns and flower.)
Mom4squirrels > THE HONEYBEE AND THE ANEMONE

Yet another rainy day in Ohio. The lighting conditions were poor and I decided to try out the 70-200 with my 1.4 converter, no less. My results exceeded my expectations and this is one of two that I really liked. ( # 2 is listed below ) There is too much noise in the background because of the low light, but I liked this picture anyway...plus it's my husband's choice of the day :-)

Mom4squirrels > CAUGHT RED-HANDED

This is a red squirrel, sometimes known as a pine squirrel (because they tend to live in pine forests). This is a female who has 3 babies that have just started coming to the feeder late in the afternoon. I took my chances on the heavy overcast, late afternoon photo opportunity to catch her in action as she takes her share of the peanuts. Hopefully I'll get some shots of the babies for you soon too. Reds are very skiddish and aggressive towards other squirrels...small but mighty.
Mom4squirrels > FOUNTAIN BUBBLES

We went for a much needed ride today and found lots of things to take pictures of...(more to come in DP later). These were the bubbles from a fountain. View them in Large if you can... They caught the reflection of the blue sky and I love the ripples as well...Had a blast today with my 200mm!
Mom4squirrels > THE COLORS OF FALL

This is one I'm really proud of. First of all it was taken through a window. 2) The window had protective bird netting in front of it to prevent crashes, 3) All I did to it was sharpen and darken it slightly, and BOOM..there were those brilliant colors once again! (I took several shots, avoiding the wood cross piece of the window frame and the on and off sun glare. Oh, and I had held it as well! I plan to return as the leaves and foliage change into more color.) Here are a few of the others...though they come out MUCH lighter on SM???

Mom4squirrels > FEMALE MANTIS GIVING DIRECTIONS??

(The two PM photos are best viewed in the large format to see their detail)To me, this female is saying " Dawling, if you cross over the street here, then turn right, you'll be at the Chocolate factory in no time." ;-)
