BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE

I swear, these cute little guys are pilots doing "touch and goes." They barely land and then they're taking off again to get more seeds. This image is another of the "through the window series" so the ISO was at 800 because the glass was gray.

Am posting very early. I am giving a short flying squirrel program at the park nature center this morning....catch up with you later :-)

GRAY SQUIRREL

A change of scenery for you...more birds to come, but for today, an Eastern Gray Squirrel.
This little guy kept watching me from behind the leaves near where I was photographing the birds. This was the only clear shot ( through the window :-)) I was able to capture...though I like seeing him through the leaves as well...hubby liked this one better, so this is today's pick :-)

WISTFUL

This is a Pine Siskin from the other morning. He was eating the seeds I put out for all the cold feathered friends that came to get some much needed food. He looked rather sad to me as he stared out into the yard, perhaps wondering if Spring will EVER arrive.

CAROLINA WREN

First things first...thank you all for the overwhelming compliments on yesterday's Junco photo. I was blown away by your compliments!

I am working hard to create some nice watercolor images...a style I really like., Thanks to John Bennett I did some experimenting on this little wren and although the vignette was a light/ice blue when I saved it, it has uploaded darker ??? I still like it though, so here it is for your viewing.

(I saved this in "low" resolution 473K and it came out to be 1.61 megs in my gallery here...what's with that?)

DARK-EYED JUNCO

I couldn't decide if I liked this full version or cropped a little closer, the dilemma was cutting off those gorgeous red crabapples..I finally decided to share the full version of this pretty little bird with all the crabapples framing him. It was such a gloomy snowy day, so I revved up the colors with a watercolor filter (seen better in the larger mode) to cut down on the noise it created...this might be a future holiday card... :-)

Thank you all for your positive comments on yesterday's goldfinch...

AMERICAN GOLDFINCH
(of course, details are better larger :-))

I'm still loving capturing birds on my little tree. It's quite a challenge to get one sitting still long enough to capture it. This was taken through the open kitchen window, leaning over the sink...freezing my fingers off...but well worth the pain and suffering. ;-)

AMERICAN GOLDFINCH

Not as sharp as I would like, but I sure liked this little bird. It is perched on top of a discarded Christmas tree that I dragged home to set up for the birds to take shelter in for the winter...it's a great prop, btw.... :-)

It's currently -8.7 on the digital thermometer ..wind chill expected to go up into the -20's For some of you that's a warm up, but it's pretty wicked outside here!!

CRABAPPLES IN THE SNOWSTORM

With temperatures plummeting
and more snow on the way,
I added a little color
to brighten this cold, cold, winter day...

Hope you're staying warm...and feeding the birds AND squirrels... :-)
